In this connection, it might be well to escertain,

as far as possible, the fate of these tokens in China; i.e,

whether they continue to pass as coins, or whether they are

melted down into ingets, or "shoes", by the Chinese

Lord Knutsford may perhaps think it desirable in the

interests of the Colony to invite the Foreign Office to

obtain information hereon from the Diplomatic and Consular

Staff in China.
